A Select Guide to Sources on Slavery in Mauritius

She worked as a history teacher and also conducted research for the Mahatma Gandhi Institute between 1980 and 1986. She won a Fulbright scholarship in 1986 to pursue an MA in African History at Columbia University (New York). In 1994, she completed a PhD in African History at the School of Oriental and African Studies (University of London) under the supervision of Dr. D. Anderson. The title of the doctoral thesis was 'Bitter Sugar: Slavery and Emancipation in 19th century Mauritius'.
She is currently working towards the publication of a work based on research material accumulated during her PhD on the topic of slavery and emancipation in Mauritius. She is also compiling a bibliography on 'The African Diaspora in the Indian Ocean' and another guide to source materials on Mauritius existing in the United States.
